Updating an old procedure that was working fine, but is now presenting me with a Choose Application window, with the question “Where is PanoramaX?”, even though PanX is open and running the procedure.
The window shows the first part of my application folder. There are scrollbars, but they don’t work. Neither do the browse, cancel or choose buttons.
This SEEMS to be caused by an Applescript with a “Tell application Panorama X” command followed by “activate”, though haven’t 100 percent confirmed that is the line causing the error.
Only thing I can do is quit Panorama, which I can through Pan X if I don’t wait too long, otherwise I have to force quit, though the force quit window does not indicate Pan X is not responding.
Meanwhile, if I call up About Panorama X the system shows I am using “Panarama X Pro Version 10.2.4 (4692)”" but the Force Quit Application window shows “PanoramaX 10.2.0.b22(3846)”, which is also what my application window shows. I can’t find anything labeled Panorama X Pro anywhere on the system.
I’ve always kept up to date on the upgrades, so don’t know why only PanoramaX 10.2.0.b22 is what shows up, but that hasn’t been a problem so far.
Your question is really an AppleScript question, not a Panorama question. But I may be able to provide some guidance.
It certainly sounds like you have two copies of Panorama X installed on your computer - one of them new, and one of them very very old. Undoubtably both of them are named PanoramaX.app, but in different folders. This is causing AppleScript to get confused. You really need to locate and trash the old b22 version. You don’t want that on your system anyway - if you accidentally run it you will have all sorts of problems.
I couldn’t find a second copy of Panorama on my system, but did relabel the old version to just PanoramaX and that did the trick as far as getting rid of the Where is Panorama? window.
The other problem does appear to be an AppleScript problem, which I think needs to be tested at work, where it is meant to run.
The operating app was labelled “PanoramaX 10.2.0.b22(3846)” and was the only copy I could find. I eliminated the version number and it worked fine and took care of the problem.
It’s been like that through all of at the updates. It seemed odd, but it never seemed to bother anything until now. Just figured the installers left it that way for a reason.
So the name was PanoramaX 10.2.0.b22(3846) but it actually was the current version?
Just figured the installers left it that way for a reason.
There is no Panorama installer.
When you install an update with the Check for Updates mechanism, it will keep whatever name it already had. So I guess at some point it got that name, and just kept it. I don’t remember Panorama downloads ever having a name other than PanoramaX.app, but perhaps my memory is faded. Or perhaps you renamed it at some point for some reason. I have lots of renamed old copies of Panorama on my development computer.
