TextDisplay loses background color if scroll bars added

I’m using a text display object, with the background color scheme I’ve specified, to display calculated text. But once I realized I might need a horizontal scroll bar and added one, the text display object’s background changed to white.

Is that an Apple interface (i.e. interference) thing?
Is there a better object to use that will keep the specified background AND allow a scroll bar?

Sorry, you can’t have a background color if you are using a scroll bar. Well you can, as long as the color you want is white.
