My heating system controller databases run 24/7. The computer is set so it never sleeps, but the display turns off after a period of time. In the past, if I clicked the mouse or keyboard, the display would wake up, and I could monitor the activity in the System Status window.
The current laptop is running Monterey 12.7.6. Whenever I click the keyboard or mouse, the display wakes, and Panorama, which is the frontmost application, starts beachballing.
I don’t remember if this started when I upgraded the coding to work with a non-Power PC computer, but it may have.
Is this the expected behavior, or is there something I can adjust or check to prevent it?

I can’t imagine what you mean by this. OS X 10.5 was the last version that ran on PowerPC computers. There has never been any version of Panorama X that would run on PowerPC.
Also, there has never been any adjustment needed to Panorama coding for a different processor architecture. 68k, PowerPC, Intel or ARM, none of that makes any difference to Panorama code. That’s all taken care of for you. (To be crystal clear, there have been adjustments needed for different operating systems, but not different processors.)
Is this the expected behavior
No, this isn’t expected behavior. It sounds like there is something wrong with your system. I don’t think this is a Panorama problem.
Thanks for pointing that out and reminding me. I think I needed an operating system upgrade, since the old operating system could no longer communicate with an iCloud email account.
The beach balling seems to be intermittent lately. I’ll look into other causes.
