Morph Rendering puzzle

After posting this, it appears my Back-Slash, in the quotes, is not showing up.
If you see two quotes together, there’s a back-slash between them.

While parsing out a field with Morph, I was confused by a visual anomaly.
The attached screenshot

shows an “A” field in Gray without “\” at the end of the field’s content - as it should. The Morph field Before shows content ending with “\” - as it should.

But the AFTER still shows content ending in "\”.
I’m clicked in a field, “Prefix”, and Morph with the formula just the letter A, which has the same content as Prefix but without the ending “\”.

Also, note with the first record starting with 1A, the BEFORE only shows 1A but the content is actually 1A Sovereign Military Order of Malta\

The AFTER should show “1A Sovereign Military Order of Malta” but the 1A is not there.

The Morph action is correct - it does replace the content of Prefix with the content of field A.

I’m puzzled because the Morph action window is not accurately showing the BEFORE content or the AFTER content. But when it’s done, the result is correct. What am I misunderstanding?

I suspect your data contains tab characters. That would mess up the preview, but would not affect the actual Morph action.

As a side note, I’m always puzzled when people post tightly cropped screen shots like this, as if pixels in a screen shot were expensive and needed to be carefully conserved. You’ve cropped out the top section of the dialog that shows what the actual transformation is that you’ve set up. That makes it pretty hard to know what sort of morph you are performing.

I guess it’s like when people first started designing web pages and would restrict the format to information that would fit on an 8.5 x 11 sheet of paper.

Some other forums have limits about the size of photos - either file size or LW dimensions. So I was timid. Maybe I figured the image would be too large and/or the formula was a simple text funnel. Next time - bigger/better.

Oh, yes - the file was copied from a web page, pasted into TextEdit, which I saved as a .rtf because there was no .txt option. Panorama Opened the .rtf with Open/New ,from text file.

I tried to use the “Reveal Invisible” database from the Exchange, but would get a “lookup function failed to Match” error message. Also dragging the file to the Drop Zone in the top right of the window wasn’t working.

The data is good now - just a little manual tweaking was needed. It was just something to do while waiting to check into the NoonTime Net on 7.2840
