Panorama looks to be idle on my machine and it responds to clicks and commands, but Activity Monitor says that it is using 101% of the CPU and the computer is running more slowly than usual. Is there some way I can tell what’s going on and possibly correct it?
I have at least one copy of Panorama X running all the time on my computer. Your post prompted me to check Activity Monitor, and lo and behold, it was running at 98% CPU usage. However, this wasn’t affecting performance of Panorama or the computer.
Panorama had a number of windows open, and in particular there were 3 help windows open. On a hunch I closed the help windows, and the CPU usage immediately dropped to 0.3% (basically zero). So if you have help windows open, you might try closing them. However, as I mentioned, even with the help windows open and Panorama X CPU usage at 98%, the computer ran at full speed, not slow at all. Of course it may depend on what sort of computer you have. I’m running a recent laptop with an M4 processor, I remember back when I had an Intel machine just looking at the computer would be enough to get the fans spinning like crazy!
I always enjoy reading your posts, Jim. ![]()
I had a help window open and I closed it, but that didn’t change the CPU usage. I tracked it down to my Check Book database. Open it, 100% usage. close it, 0.5% usage. It doesn’t look like it’s doing anything, but it must be. And yes, with my slower computers, it does slow me down some.
The database is shared, but disconnecting it from the server doesn’t change the usage. How can I tell what’s keeping that database busy?
I tracked it down to two forms, one for Check/Debits data entry and the other for Deposits data entry. I’m exploring further….
