Inputting data into a field by voice recognition gives double entry

I’ve decided to experiment with inputting data into a field with voice recognition.

I’ve done it with some other software but for Pan X it is my first time.

Utilizing the magic keyboard, the top row, F5 will enable the microphone. Hitting the key, a second time will disengage the microphone.

I do this after my cursor is in a field, but in my experiment, after I hit the enter key my dictation is again repeated. I’ve also tried disengaging the microphone with the same issue, creeps up again basically a duplication of my voice entry.

This occurs in the three or four different databases that I have experimented with. Whether I am in the Data Sheet in a field or while in a Form.

Is what I’m trying to do not possible?

Thanks.

I played around with voice dictation into PanX a few years ago and couldn’t get it to work reliably either, for what it’s worth. I eventually abandoned the effort.

Thanks Bill. I’m thinking that with a procedure I can fix the double entry by simply clipping off half the data.

A simple text funnel should do it. Take overall length then clip off half.

I’m curious about how you are doing this. From time to time I fantasize about being able to dictate a series of numbers and/or individual letters (i.e. not words) into a field instead of typing them.

I remember playing with MacSpeak or Dragon years back. I think I had to use the keyword, “Spell” or else the fill algorithm would try to find words that matched my letter string.

I’m gotten pretty used to cut and paste now - as long as my source is “cut-able”.

I, and I suspect George, are talking about the text dictation capability in Mac OS

I just enable my microphone and talk. Dictation must be enabled.

In fact, this response was with voice recognition.

The keyboard that I am using is an Apple Bluetooth keyboard, and the top key row has an F5 key that enables the microphone.

This method works in Excel, Numbers, Word, Pages, Stickies, and who knows what other software.

Working in Safari, I just dictated a search on DuckDuckGo and found this link:

I hope this helps.

George

Additionally, I just tested and I can easily input numbers into an Excel or Numbers spreadsheet

Oh, I see. You are not having PanX control the dictation. You are just clicking into a field and letting the Built-In OS feature do its thing - whether it’s a PanX field, an Excel or Numbers field, dictation in a letter, etc.

Thank you for the clarification - though it was actually clear enough once I learned to read. :slightly_smiling_face:

I never tried dictation on the Mac before. I just tried it, and I get the same double entry that you see. I have no idea why it would do that. Interestingly, this doesn’t happen in a procedure window. In a procedure window, there is no double entry. But in any kind of data area, it does the double entry - in both a data sheet and a form.

In my tests, it doesn’t quite double type. If I tap the dictation key and say “hello” it types in Hello. But when I tab the dictation key again to stop, it changes the text to HellHello. You can see that the system is feeding the characters into Panorama, the letters appear one at a time. So for some reason the system is sending the letters again when you stop the dictation.

Jim,

Actually I get the same results as you do, but I did not notice it when I first posted. My dictation string was longer.

In fact, I’m posting this reply with dictation.

Sorry for the error.
