I use an input pattern in a Time field that was set up in Pan 6 as follows: : _M. Pan 6 fills in the pattern in advance, eg., I type in 12 and the pattern puts in the colon before I type in the next two characters. It then puts in the space and I enter either A or P and it enters the M. Pan X works opposite. I type in 12 and it does not put in the colon until I type in the next character. Worse, it does not put in the M after I type in the A or P. It does if I then type in a space or anything else. This extra character requires an automatic equation to strip it out. What gives?
What gives is that Panorama X does not always work exactly like Panorama 6. You’ve suggested an appropriate workaround yourself - an automatic equation to strip out any extra character. I would also suggest that the automatic equation could add the M itself if you just finish typing with A or P.
