I am atttempting to use New/New Database from Text File…
The Error Wizard result is ‘fileload: “<file_name.csv>” couldn’t be opened because there is no such file.’
I can open other .csv files in that directory. Excel opens the file just fine. Excel created a new .csv from that file and it too would not open.
Interesting. Other .csv files in that directory worked so it is not a directory issue. Copying the file to another directory then allowed that file to be opened.
Would copying a file from one directory to another change the file’s permissions?
I am not an expert on all of the ins and outs of permissions. I do know that in addition to traditional UNIX permissions, macOS files can have something called ACL properties that provide additional complex levels of permissions. I think some ACL properties are copied with a file, and some are not. Most users rarely use ACL properties (I have never done so on purpose), but they can really trip you up.
This web site sometimes has detailed discussions of this topic.
Sorry I don’t have a link to a specific page on that site, but I know I’ve seen this topic covered there. I think he has a free utility that can examine (and modify?) ACL properties.
