Power Outages affecting the server

Yesterday evening the remains of the hurricane with the unpronounceable name went through Massachusetts leaving a large number of outages. My former firm’s office has a back-up generator that powers the network equipment, but that suddenly stopped this morning. PanoramaX then acted in some very strange ways (some clients were in a different office that still had power). Some future project might include considering how PanX responds to a sudden loss of the server connection. Or programmers, like me, might consider what happens in trying to make very robust applications.

What does “acted in some very strange ways” mean? Every time a client contacts the server, it checks for an error in the response. However, if the server is not running, there’s not much possibility of a graceful recovery other than reporting that an error has occurred.
