Playsound statement not working

I think you nailed it Jim.

Yes, there was a checkbox for the iCloud save space thing. It was “ON”. I turned it off and then proceeded to put that simple test database and sound file on my desktop.

Initially, I had the same problem but figured it would take time for iCloud to reinitialize. A guess!

It now works but took some time. I guess I could have made a mistake in structuring the path but I don’t think so. But I’m not going back to see if I did. No way Ray. No way Jim Rea.

Thanks again for solving the mystery and thanks to the other guys for, as usual, pitching in., Kurt, Gary, et al.

What is satisfying is that I figured a workaround and now we know what was the cause that gave discrepant outcomes depending who tried it!

iCloud is like having a TEN mistress. Cool in some ways but there is a lot of overhead.

I export from Panorama address to contacts. I used to have 17,000 contacts (Apple claims to handle 50K). With iCloud it never would sync properly. The size was obviously a problem. I cut iCloud out and all was fine until one OS upgrade that no longer allows me to have such a large contacts quantity on my Mac. It just does not sync with the phone. I did an entire ritual with Apple and they recognized the issue. Still no cure for what has to be over a year.

Thanks everyone.

Apple deciding to remove files from your system to “help” you free up space is pernicious

How does that song go, ~ I second that emotion ~.
I found - not through any setting or option I intentionally set, that a lot of my “stuff” was suddenly “… in the cloud …” It took a call to Apple Support to bring all back, local to my machine, and turn off any “unauthorized” activity of iCloud.

In my case, all my backups are local. I can imagine a few times when accessing the all prevasive iCloud file might be handy. But they is very rare - like accessing a password for a streaming service instead of running upstairs to the desktop Mini and checking a Stickie.
